Land bingo is one of those pastimes that is popular all over the world by varying age groups, but largely the elderly and poorer demographics. From the United States to the European Union, bingo is a viable alternative to gambling at the land casinos and even online casinos gambling sites. But with double taxation on the land bingo industry is threatening to shut down dozens of bingo halls all over Britain. Many had hoped that the new British budget would rectify the double taxation exclusively on the land bingo industry, but in fact that double taxation remains and land bingo venues are preparing to close their doors. With devastation to the land gambling industry though, it could turn more individuals onto the growing popularity of the online casinos bingo gambling industry.
British Chancellor Alistair Darling released the new budget just last week, and most analysts in the land and online casinos bingo industry assumed that Darling would alter the taxation on land bingo to more fairly reflect the taxation of similar land gambling industries – but that was not the case. The Chief Executive at the Bingo Association, Paul Talboys, commented that Darling’s budget is a "slap in the face for bingo players across the country. There is no reason why they should continue to be penalised by double taxation when other gambling products pay only a single tax."
The fact is, the double taxation of the land bingo industry could very well drive more to the online casinos bingo sites if the bingo halls are forced to close their doors. 2007 was a hard year for many land gambling facilities because a smoking ban that decreased the number of gamblers and bingo players coming out to gamble in the first place. Then add that to the fact that the land bingo industry will see no reprieve from more than 30 percent in taxes, and it doesn’t bode well for the British land bingo industry.
